Nothing can be more nerve-wracking than a first date on Valentine’s Day. Where to go, what to do? The world around you is encouraging love and plates of aphrodisiacs (if I see another over-priced plate of oysters or chocolate and strawberries…hard eye roll.) Regardless, the world celebrating love around you could be a plus…or a burden. My advice? Loosen up. It is afterall just a date. Besides, Tristate Black Singles is here to the rescue with three fun and creative date ideas sure to break the ice and get you talking!
The rage right now is paint parties. What’s better than wine, paint, and talking and if the convo isn’t flowing right, you can always concentrate on your blossoming inner artiste. Call ahead to reserve your spot. These places tend to fill up. Here are a few spots to check out, but really, google is your friend with these, there are so many cool wine & paint offerings in your area, some with specific Valentine Day specials.
- Dyker Heights, Brooklyn has Pinot’s Palette
- Pinot’s Palette also has a New Jersey option: Pinot’s Palette Montclair
- Muse PaintBar has a few locations available in Connecticut
Fire Up the Love
Is your potential a cigar aficionado?
What about socializing and getting to know one another at an upscale cigar bar and lounge? Here’s a twofer. Celebrate Valentine’s Day and support a black-owned business during Black History Month by checking out Blew Smoke Cigar Room in Brooklyn. Premium cigars, light fare, and a chill atmosphere should relax you and your date into learning more about each other.
Love of the Game
Adventure Lovers I didn’t forget about you!
What about indoor rock climbing? Long Island City has a pretty cool place for walk-ins or you can reserve an introductory class for two.
Or reserve two spots in an indoor Bubble Ball pick-up game.
Or Go-Karting for adults! Fun for a couple or a double date!
- FYI: On Track Karting racing karts are fast! Think 35-45 miles per hour! (Most adult karting places top out at 20 MPH) However, On Track Karting’s tracks are indoors and staff stresses a safety first policy.
A note for you adventure lovers out there. I know conventional wisdom says, don’t pick a first date that tests your fitness. However, what if both of you are fitness buffs or into adventure or you’re just not into being conventional or another dinner date where you play 20 questions bores you to tears? I say go for it, the most important thing is to relax, have fun, and laugh a lot! Either way, we here at TriState Black Singles wish you potential new couples out there a Happy Valentine’s Day!
